Saumur:

Saumur is located about twenty five miles south of our gite and is well worth a visit. The Saumur Tourist Site says "Saumur has a soft tuffeau heart, a myriad of châteaux, manors, sixty listed churches, the largest monastery in Europe, but also dozens of megaliths. Nature, landscapes and a gentle climate have inspired humans here for many millenniums!"

Chateau de Saumur:

Located above Saumur, it gives great views of the town and the Loire river. It is undergoing extensive renovation, so check before going as it is not always open.

Chateau de Breze:

This chateau is just south of Saumur and is definitely worth a visit. Chateau de Breze prior to the 15th century was entirely underground, with everything from living quarters to a fully working kitchen. A lot of the underground is accessible - just watch your head. The part above ground today is beautiful but exploring this "chateau beneath a chateau" was fascinating!

Le Mans

Le Mans 24 Hour Race is only fifty miles from our gite - so for those of you looking to combine a holiday in the Loire Valley and a visit to the Le Mans 24 hours race, our gite makes perfect sense. In 2016 the Le Mans 24 race is being held over the weekend of the 18 / 19 June - we still have availability for that weekend.
